Solutions – Sustainability Excellence

STRATEGIC
NAVIGATION

Todays operating environment has never been more complex, turbulent and uncertain. Old mental models and fads for developing organisational strategies will no longer wash in this environment. Taking a natural and systems approach to business strategy, one that creates a ‘complex adaptive system’, we partner with business leaders to build connected, emergent, diverse and focussed organisations that sustain, prosper and win. Moreover, as advocates for the principle of ‘ecority’ as a guide for planetary sustainability, our support ensures that any growth strategy is based on ethical, cradle to cradle philosophies, analogous to the emerging Circular Economy. In no way a fad, the Circular Economy is a revolution in the making that, in combination with the Internet of Things, looks to break away from our current wasteful, linear and destructive system to one that keeps products and materials in a perpetually useful and valued state. It’s here that new business models are formed including Remanufacturing, Shared Supply Chains, Shared Assets and Product-as-a-Service.

CSR & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The United Nations is calling on companies to play a big role in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, and your business’s operational practices are just one piece of the impact pie. We invite organisations to create a grassroots, company-wide movement with the potential for greater social, and business, impact. There is real business and people opportunities in adopting this framework. The SDGs put a spotlight on some of the world’s biggest issues and our ability to shape our impact on them, for good or bad. This represents a catalyst for innovation and new market opportunities for the savvy CEO or business owner to embrace and drive growth. Our SDG support includes seminars, strategic mapping and alignment and the establishment of monitoring and measuring mechanisms.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Effective and mature stakeholder engagement has the potential to make corporate decision-making more effective by using diverse external opinions to inform the creation and implementation of corporate strategy. Companies that take this leap may discover that stakeholder engagement provides significant value beyond risk avoidance: It can help companies build their future and create a more inclusive, sustainable economy in the process. No longer a process undertaken merely for the sake of doing it, successful organisations today treat stakeholder engagement as a strategic priority that integrates stakeholder feedback deeply into all aspects of a company’s operations through more collaborative, inclusive, and strategic engagements. We support this process by mapping our client’s stakeholder system combined with assessing our clients maturity or organisational readiness to ensure any engagement solutions offered are scalable, viable and realistic.

DIGITAL
SYSTEMS

The next few years will see a multitude of networked technologies come into the market as the digital-circular economy gains traction. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, IoT, LIDAR, cognitive automation and augmented reality will provide enormous sustainability and performance benefits including the efficient deployment of resources, use of energy, product and service innovation and management of waste to name just a few. We support clients by navigating through this maze and offering above the line independent advocacy and analysis to ensure any deployed technologies are value for money and fit for purpose. As members of some of the world’s leading digital knowledge bodies and networks, our support places clients in a strong position to achieve their missions through data rich information offering superior agility, efficiency and sustainability outcomes.

ISO / CERTIFICATION
REVIEW, GAP
ANALYSIS AND
AUDIT

Today more than ever, organisations recognise the need to establish outstanding social and environmental performance habits. There are many paths for organisations to achieve this but it’s through many of the available ISO standards that offers organisations the most recognised and standardised approach.  Whether this is to “do the right thing” as good stewards of the planet, or to meet the increasing demands of customers and the public at large, there’s a growing sense that companies not only want to achieve sustainable environmental practices, but also demonstrate them. Adopting these recognised standards and guidelines lends credibility to claims, providing assurance to organisations, their customers, and other interested parties. We focus on the following –  ISO 14001 [Environmental Management], ISO 26000 [Social Responsibility], ISO 20400 [Sustainable Procurement], AA1000 [Materiality Assessment] and the Australian Modern Slavery Act.

NFP & COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE
PARTNERSHIP BROKERAGE

We facilitate a process that uncovers, aligns and partners commercial enterprises and not-for-profits for mutually beneficial outcomes. Such partnerships push the normal versions of philanthropy by bringing together organisations to achieve superior for-purpose goals. This integration of people and business models can also prove highly beneficial for employees who enjoy the fresh challenge of working with a more diverse work force coupled with community experiences not normally available. Whether it’s impact investing, volunteering, training or equipment sharing, this form of capacity building is becoming increasingly paramount in enabling forces to meet the social and environmental challenges of our day and into the future.

SHARED VALUE
CREATION
AND
INNOVATION

We support the circular economy process that equates organisational sustainability to be mutually dependent of community sustainability. Recognising we are part of an open system, we support clients to assess and analyse opportunities to improve the health of their communities and employees. This can be achieved by reconceiving products and services to meet more desired societal needs, redefining production and supply chains as emerging areas for business efficiency, and creating alignment and linkages with community groups and projects for win-win outcomes. This ultimately improves community well-being and resilience that unlocks superior organisational performance and prosperity.

FUTURING
DEEP DIVING
AND
STORYTELLING

Futuring is using a systematic process for thinking about, picturing possible outcomes, and planning for the future. We actively view the present world as a window on possible future outcomes that forge new epistemologies that address many of our organisational, societal and environmental issues. Through visioning, gaming and scenario planning we focus on 6 current VUCA ‘trends’ that are affecting the present and likely to shape the future:

  1. Systems Thinking
  2. Complexity Theory
  3. Operating Rhythms
  4. Technological Development
  5. Spirituality and Consciousness
  6. Climate Change

Scenarios are recognised as an effective method for forecasting the future and dealing with the uncertainty and ambiguity of a situation. Scenario creation focuses on identifying what might happen and, where necessary, what future an organisation idealises. Importantly, it permits the problem to be put into focus determining what consequences may arise from those pathways under consideration. It’s a fully immersive and creative process, one that we simply facilitate but ask everyone come in with an open mind and kid-like energy!
